Corporate Parenting Strategy Group
The Corporate Parenting Strategy provides the framework for elected members, officers and partners in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities, as corporate parents of Looked After children and young people in Aberdeenshire.
Being a good Corporate Parent means that the Council will; accept responsibility for Aberdeenshire’s Looked After Children and Young People and Care Leavers, make their needs a priority, and seek for them the same outcomes as any good parent would want for their own children.
Aberdeenshire Council strives to ensure that there is no discernible difference between the outcomes of children and young people who have been Looked After and their peers who have not. Looked After Children and Young People and Care Leavers will be supported to be successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.
As a Corporate Family we are in a unique position to be able to support young people whilst they are in our care and to prepare them as they leave home to ensure they have their own housing, good economic opportunities, access to community learning and development support, access to welfare rights advice and health and careers services. All of these corporate services will be helpful to ensure young care leavers are supported by us as their Corporate Family to achieve and sustain independent living in adulthood.
The Strategy Group meets every quarter and is responsible for developing Aberdeenshire’s Corporate Parenting Plan and reporting on this annually. Aberdeenshire’s Plan, Policy and most recent annual report is published below.
