GIRFEC multi-agency learning and development is available for anyone working with children, young people and families within Aberdeenshire.
A range of resources and opportunities are available to meet the individual learning needs and preferences of practitioners. This includes self-directed e-learning courses and resources, as well as live and in-person events. We recognise the importance of a blended learning approach which enables practitioners to engage in learning which enriches their multi-agency understanding.
Training Levels
Aberdeenshire uses the core competencies as set out in the National Framework for Child Protection Learning and Development in Scotland 2024, see diagram below, within the Aberdeenshire Integrated Multi‑Agency Learning and Development Strategy 2023-2026 to provide a shared foundation for practice across all services working with children, young people and families. The competencies inform the design of multi‑agency learning and support supervision, workforce development and self‑evaluation. This approach promotes consistent, confident, trauma‑informed and rights‑based practice across Aberdeenshire.

ALDO — Online Learning
The Aberdeenshire Learning and Development Online (ALDO) platform provides accessible e-learning resources for professionals working with children and families across Aberdeenshire.
Core GIRFEC operational practice modules are hosted within the GIRFEC learning and Development Portal as well as a range of other resources.
If you are a Council employee, or from a partner agency that already has an ALDO account you can access this training directly by logging on to ALDO. If you or your agency do not have an ALDO account, please complete this form – ALDO Account Request
